Bloom Where you are Planted | March Free Print
Since I've been in Charlottesville, I've wanted to move back home to Pittsburgh. I go through these little spells where I REALLY want to get back home. And because the "grass is always greener" mentality does me no good, I often get a little sad and sorry for myself when I'm in these spells.
Last year, I was going through a particularly rough one of these phases. Unrelated, I was looking for a spring-ish quote to letter and put up in my home to add some seasonal decor. I came across the quote "Bloom where you are planted," and realized not only was it perfect for spring, but it was an encouragement I needed.
It has stayed up in our home ever since, because I need the reminder more often than not.
A year later, and I can't say I don't still have the same struggle. I would absolutely love to be near my family. I grew up around all of the family, all of the time. I would love that for Gemma. But the truth is, that's not an option right now, and that's not my reality. Most of the time I realize that. But when I don't, and when I focus on what I don't have, I tend to forget about all I have to be thankful for where I am.
So this idea of blooming where I am planted, it reminds me that this is where I am right now, and there are good things to be thankful for. There are relationships to foster and new connections to be made, all right here. There are beautiful things all around me, and sometimes I just need to remember to see them.
In this season of life, I have a beautiful baby, a supportive husband, great friends, and jobs that I wouldn't have if I didn't live right where I am. I have a home that I love, and I live in a town surrounded by beautiful mountain views. There is so much to do here, and even though my family is far, they visit often (because they want to see Gemma, of course). Really, there is so much to be thankful for. When I wish I was somewhere else, I forget that.
This encouragement is for you today, because I'm sure we all need the encouragement to be more present, right where you are, no matter what season you are in.
